After the first day of the Division I District Meet, the Stow-Munroe Falls boys track and field team was well positioned to qualify quite a few athletes to the regional meet.

The district meet took place May 17 and May 19 at Boliantz Stadium in Macedonia. Results from day two were not available at press time.

After the first day of the district meet, Stow was in sixth place with 13 points. Brecksville-Broadview Heights was in front of the pack with 33 points, while Walsh Jesuit was second (24 points) and Hudson settled into third place (21 points).

"We had some good results," said Stow head coach John Roseman, "but we could have done better in other events."

Stow's Jeremiah Gyulai qualified for the regional meet in the discus on Tuesday. He finished second in the event with a throw of 158-feet-7. Adrian Woliver just missed a trip to districts as he placed fifth in the event, heaving the disc a distance of 138 feet.

In addition, Luke Black finished eighth in the pole vault with a height of 11-feet-6 and Dominic Bruner placed ninth in the long jump with an effort of 19-feet-11.75.

Scott Cunnington qualified for the finals in two individual events, the 100 and the 400.

"I think Scott Cunnington has a good chance of qualifying for regionals in the 400," said Roseman.

Four other Bulldogs qualified for the finals in individual track events. They were Woliver in the 100, Black in the 110 high hurdles, and Jason Anzaldi and Matthew Duffy in the 800.

Stow's 800 relay team also qualified for the finals. The members of that unit were Mark Dages, Andrew Cermak, Nyigel Spann, and Leandros Tosko.

The top four individuals in each event and the top four relay teams advanced to the regional meet next week. Roseman expressed optimism and excitement regarding how the Bulldogs might fare during the second day of the district competition.

"I'm looking forward to the second day and seeing how we do in the shot put, as well as seeing how my mostly young distance squad does," said Roseman.
