Stow boys lacrosse breaks skid with win over Beavers

Following its loss to Wadsworth April 24 at home, the Stow-Munroe Falls boys lacrosse team found itself mired in a seven-game losing streak.

Stow dropped a 9-3 loss to the Grizzlies at Bulldog Stadium.

On April 26 at Painesville Riverside, howevever, the Bulldogs broke out of their slump in emphatic fashion. Stow posted a 13-1 rout of the Beavers

Stow's record stood at 4-7 as of press time.

The game with Wadsworth saw a familiar theme with Stow, as the Bulldogs' offense could not get untracked.

Up 6-3 at the half, Wadsworth shut out the Bulldogs after halftime, despite finishing with only slight edges in shots (30-29) and face-offs (10-9).

Owen Baker led the Bulldogs with two goals, while Chase Skall had a goal for the Bulldogs.

Declan Tubbs and Ethan Hanson each had an assist for Stow, while Hanson also led the Bulldogs with six ground balls.

Stow goaltender Cole Washko finished with 10 saves in the loss.

In the game against Riverside, Stow held slim leads of 3-1 after one quarter and 4-1 at the half before a six-goal third quarter blew open the game.

Stow's offense eventually swamped the Beavers, as the Bulldogs finished with a 40-15 edge in shots and a 13-4 edge in face-off wins.

Jacob Perch had one of his best games of the season, finishing with four goals, an assist and five ground balls, while Baker added three goals.

Skall was all over the field with two goals, two assist and a team-high seven ground ball, while Andrew Herring added two goals. Bryan DeVitis and Declan Tubbs each had one goal for Stow.

Wasko and Hunter Geiger each had two saves for the Bulldogs in goal.

Stow was set to travel to backyard rival Walsh Jesuit April 28, but results were not available at press time.

Stow will host Padua Franciscan May 1 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Cleveland Heights May 4 at 6 p.m.
