Stow volleyball outlasts Hudson in yet another epic affair

Longtime rivals Hudson and Stow-Munroe Falls had three epic battles against each other on the volleyball court in 2016.

Fortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, they won all three.

Top-seeded Stow earned a come-from-behind 24-26, 25-13, 16-25, 25-14, 15-9 victory over fourth-seeded Hudson in a Stow Division I district semifinal contest Oct. 25 at James G. Tyree Gymnasium.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs (16-7) earned a date with second-seeded Walsh Jesuit in the Stow district final. That contest is scheduled to take place Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. The Warriors advanced with a 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 25-13 victory over third-seeded Copley.

Stow also earned two five-set wins over the Lady Explorers in Suburban League National Conference play during the regular season.

Freshman outside hitter Lizzy Stefanov and junior outside hitter Julia DiPaola each had 15 kills for the Lady Bulldogs. DiPaolo also had 24 digs.

Sophomore setter Lauren Fair and junior setter Jacy Guider had 22 and 21 assists, respectively, for Stow. Senior middle hitter Marie Cistone added eight blocks for the Lady Bulldogs.

Junior outside hitter Dani Turner led the Explorers with 20 kills and five digs. Senior middle hitter Alena Madar had 11 kills, eight digs and three blocks and sophomore setter Lindsay Sadler contributed 41 assists and nine digs for Hudson.

Sophomore libero Kendall Mackay added 36 digs and one ace for the Lady Explorers.
