Eugene Paul Ollila, "Uncle Geno" of Stow, passed away quietly Feb. 25th surrounded by his family and loved ones. He would have been seventy-four in March.
Gene was born on March 13, 1943 in Ashtabula, Oh. to the late Edward and Emma Ollila, one of four children. He grew up in Jefferson, Oh. where he attended public school and joined the local ROTC program. Gene served in the Ohio National Guard from 1961-63 after which he returned to Jefferson to run the local service station and repair garage, later adding a car wash system.
In 1968 he married Gayle Hruska and the two later moved to Stow and became members of Holy Family Parish. Gene worked at several companies throughout his life, working primarily in sales in the packaging industry, and in food service. He was a great cook who had perfected several recipes and was featured in the Stow Sentry in the 1980's as "The Cook of the Week". Gene had a great sense of humor and was an expert story teller. He touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed now that he has gone to be with the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Nicole; brothers, Michael and Robert Ollila, as well as sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins. His brother, William preceded him in death.
