“Then & Now”
STOW – George Donald Umbower, age 85, went home to the Lord surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, August 27, 2016. He is proceeded in death by his parents, George and Dessie Umbower and sister Violet Geist. He is survived by his loving wife Iris of 65 years, son Michael (Charlotte) Umbower, Daughter Connie (Thomas) Mitchin, and daughter Rebecca Umbower. He was the grandfather of 7 – Jennifer (Russell) Smith, Sally (Adam) Fine, Matthew Mitchin, Theresa Kyer, Ian Kyer, Timothy Kyer, and Melissa Kyer. He was the great grandfather of 3 – Amy Smith, Julie Smith, Isaac Fine and his precious cat Boosie. George was born at home on September 19, 1930 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. George proudly served his country in the Korean War where he earned 5 medals. He was employed with S&E Electric in Twinsburg for 28 years, was a former member of the Stow Men’s Garden Club, and a member of Celebration Church for 33 years where he was a church elder. George was a kind, gentle and sincere man. Always fun loving, he was a gardener, a master baker, the king pancake chef of summer camping trips, and an avid roller coaster rider. Attending church to worship the Lord was his most treasured calling. He was adored by his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed. We love you Pap Pap!
