WWII naval aviator

Joseph C. Mullin Sr., 88, died Dec. 25, 2012.

He was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Washington, D.C. to Francis and Helen Mullin.

He was a World War II Naval aviator, high school teacher and coach, and after government civilian service, an assistant professor of criminal justice at the University of Akron until his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his son, George J. Mullin and is survived by his wife, Terese; children, Joseph Jr. (Therese), Helen McDowell (Kurt), Jerome (Terry), Mary Collery (Tom), Michael (Mindy), Patrick (Christine), Virginia, Thomas, James (Bea), Rose Marie Hughes (Gary), Margaret Simcox (Brian), and Paul (Mary Jane); 40 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours were at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home in Stow. A Requiem High Mass was offered for the repose of his soul at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in Akron. Burial followed at Stow Cemetery.
