World War II veteran

Harold R. Cross, 87, died at home on May 22, 2009.

He was born in Clearfield County, Pa. on April 1, 1922, to Alfred and Bertha (Saliday) Cross. He had lived in this area since he was 3 years old and was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army.

Besides his parents, Mr. Cross was preceded in death by brothers James, Edward and Walter and sisters Ruth and Lillian. Also preceding him in death was longtime friend and companion Mable Rochford in 1994.

He is survived by stepdaughter, Judith Rochford of Kent and special great-nephew Richard Cross (Deborah Fields) of Tippecanoe. He is also survived by nephew, Robert "Oz" (Shirley) Cross and nieces, Terry (Walt) Vest, Dorothy (Robert) Roberts, Joyce (Paul) Hickin, Bertha (Clint) Bennet and Sandra (Terry) Lodico.

Cremation has taken place. Deacon Phil Kamlowsky conducted a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls, followed by a gathering of relatives and friends at the residence. Donations in his memory may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 4904 Quick Road, Peninsula 44264.
