Luigi Lettieri
Age: 55
Occupation: Retired adaptive physical education instructor and retired athletics director of the area Special Olympics.
How long have you lived in Munroe Falls? Since 1986.
How would you describe the Stow-Munroe Falls area to someone who has never been here? My wife, Mary, and I love to live in the small, friendly neighborhood environment that is close to larger communities for shopping and recreational activities.
What is your favorite activity in the area? I like to do cycling. I also like to golf and fish in leisure time.
Hobbies/Interests: I volunteer still for the Special Olympics and for the American Red Cross. I'm also involved with the Knights of Columbus.
If they made a movie based on your life, who would play you and what would it be called? Robert Redford would play me. It would be called "Run Wild, Run Free: An Alaskan Adventure."
What is your biggest accomplishment? I came over from Italy in 1966. I didn't know how to speak English and was able to get a bachelor's and master's degree from Kent State University and teach physically and mentally challenged individuals.
Whom do you most admire? I was fortunate to work with Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded the Special Olympics and opened up the mentally and physically challenged to become contributing members of society.
What is the most unusual job you have ever had? My grandfather, Pasquale DiFranco, had a landscaping business. I would help him and met the individuals who were members of the Shaker Heights community we worked for. That was a thrill for me.
Something most people don't know about me is ... I am really concerned about the environment. I get up early each morning and feed the deer, ducks and wild species of birds.
