at library in Hudson

Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post writer Michael Dirda will discuss his new book, "Classics for Pleasure" Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Hudson Library & Historical Society.

The just released Classics for Pleasure is a collection of essays in which Dirda describes and promotes works of fiction, poetry, drama and nonfiction prose written by approximately 90 authors.

Dirda, a longtime columnist and senior editor at The Washington Post Book World, received the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for criticism. He also has a weekly online column, Dirda on Books at www.washingtonpost.com. He is the author of the memoir "An Open Book" (about growing up in nearby Lorain) and of four collections of essays: "Readings," "Bound to Please," "Book by Book" and, most recently, "Classics for Pleasure."

A resident of Silver Spring, Md., Dirda graduated with highest honors in English from Oberlin College. He holds a master's of arts and doctorate in comparative literature from Cornell University.

The presentation and book signing is free and open to the public.

Copies of "Classics for Pleasure" will be available at the program.
