I want to start out by talking about the Levy. The Levy is extremely important for everyone in the education system, including myself, a 10-grader at Stow-Munroe Fall High School. If the Levy does not pass, then some drastic changes will be seen in the future. In my case, they might enforce "Pay to Play", having to buy your way onto the team. I thought that being on the team meant that you have what it takes? Some of the best players might never be able to be on the team if their parents can't pay for it. Also, I'm on the Speech and Debate Team, which means so much to me. We sent three of our best to Nationals last year, and numerous team members to States. If the Levy does not pass, then our strong team might be one of the first to go.
During all my anxiety of the Levy, I discover that our Board of Education is handing out salary increases to Stow's business manager and assistant treasurer. "I think our November levy is going to be in trouble," stated a resident of Stow. Why anyone vote for the levy, when they are forced to believe their tax dollars will only benefit business managers and assistant treasurers, instead of our honorable teachers and staff, along with maintaining a good learning environment.
I think our Board of Education needs to to look to the Preamble when it boldy states, "We the People..." We means unity. We should have a unity between the BOE, the teachers, the staff, the residents of Stow, and the students. How can we have our Stow Pride, when our Board of Education is letting us down?
