Letter to the Editor: 'Consideration' should be given to sale

I read with interest the March 7 Stow Sentry article, ("Should Stow sell Fox Den to balance city's budget?") regarding the subject.

While I don't necessarily agree with selling this business to balance the budget, I think consideration should be given to selling nevertheless for the following reasons:

Government should not be using taxpayers' money to support a losing business.

The city should not be competing with private courses and/or other, more attractive public golf courses, like in Cuyahoga Falls.

Sale of the golf course would relieve the city debt service of about $400,000 a year and stop the drain of a business with what appears to be less than a 0.15 percent return on the investment.

All of this, of course, is predicated on the ability to protect the property as green space in perpetuity or at least subject to Council approval or referendum.
