For a swimmer, Canton is always the objective.
The Hall of Fame city annually plays host to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.
Stow senior Shelbey Mitchell is making the trek down Interstate 77 to Canton after her stellar performance in the 100 backstroke competition. She finished fifth at last week's Division I district meet with a final time of 1.00.78.
Results of the state swimming meet were not available at press time.
Mitchell also was 26th in the 100 butterfly.
Though other Lady Bulldogs weren't as fortunate, the fact they reached district competition certainly says a lot about their abilities. In the diving competition, senior Mialy Wells was 17th, just missing qualifying for a trip to state.
Sophomore Jessie Lee was 38th in the 200 individual medley and 37th in the 100 breaststroke. Junior Chelsea Simpson was 50th in the 500 freestyle.
As for the boys, the 200 medley relay team of senior Dylan Fox, junior Greg Oneacre, sophomore Joe Freudeman, and senior Alex Wentz did not qualify for state, but finished 19th at the Division I district last week at Cleveland State University.
Fox and Oneacre finished 36th and 37th, respectively, in the 200 intermediate medley.
Freudeman was 40th at the district in the 100 butterfly. Oneacre was 24th in the backstroke and Wentz was 29th.
Senior Logan Gabriel came in 28th in the 100 freestyle, with sophomore Jeremy Wentz one spot behind him in the race. Wentz also 31st in the 100 backstroke and Fox came in 39th.
Another senior, Nick Brenner, came in 17th in the 500 freestyle. Teammate and senior Travis Wolfe in the same race came in 36th.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Wentz, senior Alex Yeh, Gabriel and Wentz came in 18th.
