High school bands to perform March 4

The Stow-Munroe Falls High School bands will be performing their annual benefit concert March 4 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The concert is free.

KSU athletic director to speak at sports parent meeting

Laing Kennedy, Kent State University's director of athletics, will be the keynote speaker at the Spring Sports Parent Meeting on March 4 at 7 pm in the Stow-Munroe Falls High School Commons. The mandatory meeting for parents of spring sports students entering grades nine through 12 is open to the public.

Kennedy's presentation, "The Privilege of Being a Parent," will be followed by a question and answer session.

Kennedy is in his 16th year as director of athletics and in that time KSU has amassed 251 individual MAC titles, 85 team championships and 83 All-America honors.

In addition, Kennedy was honored as Northeast Region Division 1-A Athletic Director of the Year in both 2006 and 2002. Locally, he serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the United Way of Portage County.

All parents will meet in classrooms by sport with head coaches. Mandatory forms and information regarding eligibility, practice schedules and athletic training guidelines will be reviewed.

Parents are reminded that a pre-participation physical form need to be completed by a physician and be on file in the SMFHS Athletic Office prior to each student's eligibility to participate. Forms may be downloaded from smfschools.org, ohsaa.org, or picked up in the Athletic Office.

17th annual Stow Boosters Club Dawg Day Golf Outing

The Stow Boosters Club will sponsor its 17th annual Dawg Day Golf Outing.

A four-person scramble will take place at Fox Den Golf Course June 11. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. with an 8 a.m. registration.

Cost is $85 a person and $340 a foursome. Payment is due April 30, or pay by March 31 to enter a special raffle for early registration.

A special hole sponsorship is $100. A bull dawg special -- a foursome with hole sponsorship -- is $400. Attending dinner only is $30.

Price includes golf, cart, breakfast sandwich, dinner, adult beverages, skill contests and door prizes.

Joshua's Cafe to offer Seafood Buffet on March 19

Joshua's Cafe, located inside Stow-Munroe Falls High School, is hosting its second annual Seafood Lunch and Dinner Buffet on March 19.

The special buffet menu features crab legs, crispy fish, bouillabase, seafood bisque, roasted salmon, chicken roulade, lobster macaroni and cheese and fried calamari, as well as cauliflower, hush puppies and a variety of salads, rolls and desserts.

Seafood lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dinner times are 5:30 to 7 p.m. or 7:30 to 9 p.m. Prices are $7 per person for lunch and $12 per person for dinner with $11 for seniors and $7 for children ages 12 and under.

Stow-Munroe Falls High School is located at 3227 East Graham Road and parking is available off Newcomer Road using the bus entrance.

Booster Club presents 'Night at the Races'

The Stow-Munroe Falls Booster Club will present "A Night at the Races" on April 16 at the Stow Youth Baseball Hall, 4157 Hudson Drive, Stow.

This event is for the purpose of entertainment for adults.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and post time will be 7:30 with full color video races.

Tickets are $20 per person and includes a buffet dinner, soft drinks and coffee. Alcohol will not be provided by the Booster Club but attendees can bring their own.

All tickets are pre-sale only and tables may be reserved in groups of eight.

Attendees can also buy a horse and name it for $25 pre-sale. There will be trophies and cash prizes.

After Prom planning meetings set

Each year senior parents provide the After Prom Party for all members of the senior class. This year's After Prom - "Under the Big Top" -- will be May 23 and all seniors are invited free of charge to celebrate together in a safe, alcohol/drug free environment. There will be food, inflatables, DJ, and prizes for more than 500 SMFHS graduating seniors.

Parents have been meeting for several months to plan the party and raise funds. Chair people for several committees are still needed and there is lots of room on the decorating committee. The next meetings will be March 9 and 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the school's commons.

Meeting set for Kimpton cheerleading parents

A required meeting for Kimpton Middle School cheerleadings parent will be March 2 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Physicals and emergency medical forms must be turned in to participate in tryouts. Tryout week will be March 15 to 19 every day from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Band boosters to host reverse raffle

The Stow-Munroe Falls Band Boosters is having its annual reverse raffle to benefit the Stow-Munroe Falls schools band program for the entire school district. The reverse raffle will take place March 20 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 1945 Mogadore Road, Kent.

Tickets are $60 per person and include a buffet meal, open bar and one main board number.
