In regard to the Stow Sentry article of Jan. 31 about rental property inspections, Mayor Karen Fritschel told City Council that inspections are needed to keep the properties safe. She said she has heard complaints from some tenants about properties when she was on Council. These days with the economy as it is, the mayor and Council would hear lots more complaints from tenants who would end up paying the administrative fees that would be charged by the city for registration and inspections. I believe City Council President Janet D'Antonio was the voice of reason, questioning the need for this legislation when there is already legislation to cover it, needing only "more teeth." But then the current legislation won't make any money, and the new one will make lots of money. I believe everyone knows what a hidden tax is. It seems new legislation is not needed except to make money for the city. Larry Steele Stow Comments
