Letter to the Editor: Urges new Councilmen to keep promises

I attended the swearing in of the Stow City Council. As I sat and listened I was surprised by some of the advice given by Judge Kim Hoover. Then I read the comments by Mayor Karen Fritschel in the newspaper. It seemed to me both of these were directed at the two new Council members. I believe they basically said forget the promises you made and the goals you set and join with the rest of us. Why? I believe the answer is so no one will know who to vote out next time.

Our new Council-at-large member promised to bring up a 40 percent pay cut for Council; the other said leadership should do what they are asking city employees to do. Many citizens agreed and voted these two in, with the new Council-at-large member getting more votes than anyone. Based on conversations I've had, I don't think Council leadership will allow this to be brought up for public discussion.

My advice to the new Council members is go public with these ideas and any other issue you believe in, that's what got you elected in the first place. We taxpayers are tired of the business as usual mentality.
