LOUIS D. MASSA
Received Purple Heart and Silver Star honors
Louis D. Massa, 83, of Munroe Falls, died Jan. 17, 2010.
Born on March 20, 1926, in Tilden, Ill., his family relocated to Akron in 1939. He later resided in North Hill and then Munroe Falls. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged, receiving the Purple Heart and Silver Star commendations.
Mr. Massa was a member of the V.F.W. Acker-Moore Post in Stow and was also a member of the Goodyear Hunting and Fishing Club. Mr. Massa enjoyed being outdoors, working in his vegetable garden and was an avid golfer, participating in several golf leagues.
Mr. Massa was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Angelina Massa; sisters, Margaret Parker and Lena Rubino; and brothers, Dominic and John Massa. Mr. Massa is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lillian Massa; son, Louis (Stephanie) Massa and daughter Michele Smith (Massa) all of Munroe Falls; daughters, Sandra, Linda and Toni, all from a previous marriage; grandchildren, Jordan and Michal Smith and Ashley, Nicole and Dominic Massa; brother, Tony V. Massa of Canton; sisters, Maria (Robert) Settle of Akron, Catherine (John) Donatelli of Brimfield; aunts, Antoinette Didato of Cuyahoga Falls and Mary Didato of Florida; and nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours took place at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, Stow Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment was at Northlawn Memorial Gardens with the American Legion Post #281 rendering military rites. Memorial donations may be made to the Stow Police Department, Munroe Falls Police Department or the Acker-Moore VFW.
