Sergeant with Army Air Corps

Elmer Charles Sekeres, 91, died June 13, 2009 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Sekeres was born on Oct. 4, 1917, in Akron. With a high affinity for flying, he was a sergeant and veteran of the Army Air Corps and served in the 509th composite group. He was employed with Polsky's Department Store for more than 40 years before retiring to spend the rest of his life with his wife, Billie.

He was married to Billie Gilmore on May 3, 1945, and they spent their life sharing a mutual devotion to their family, their puppies and their "home away from home" -- Fripp Island, South Carolina.

Preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Marie Sekeres, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Billie; son, Charles (Julie) and daughter, Phyllis Weiner (Dennis); grandchildren, Kris (Bob), Tim (Amie), Sherri (Pat), Romy (Mark), Scott (Margaret), Tracy (Bill), Bradley (Anna), Andrew and Christian; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Gilmore; brother-in-law, Robert (Blanche); niece, Tammy Reed; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours took place at Dunn-Quigley in Stow where Fr. Joe Mamich officiated at funeral services. Interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery.
