Touch a Truck A favorite program, Touch a Truck, is coming back May 17 at 10 a.m. Come to the library parking lot to see a variety of big trucks, from firetrucks and mail trucks to tow trucks and many more. Sit in the driver's seat, honk the horn and talk to the drivers. The program is for preschool children and their parents. Registration is not required. This event will be postponed in the event of rain. The rain date is May 18 at 2 p.m. Friends' annual meeting The annual meeting of the Friends of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library will be May 20 at 2 p.m. in the Stow-Munroe Falls Room at the library. A brief business meeting will take place, including the election and installation of officers. The public is invited to meet Russ Musarra and Chuck Ayers, authors of "Walks Around Akron: Rediscovering a City in Transition." Copies of the book will be available for purchase and may be signed by the authors. Refreshments will be served. For reservations, call the library at 330-688-3295. September 11 survivor George Sleigh On May 28 at 7 p.m., hear George Sleigh's story of escape from the 91st floor of the World Trade Center. Registration is limited. Call 688-3295 or stop by the Reference Desk to register. The program will take place in the Stow-Munroe Falls room at the library. Bug Show Registration for the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Bug Show begins June 16. The show includes a program that allows participants to catch bugs and try to identify them. Boxes can be brought to the library for the Bug Show, scheduled for June 25 at 7 p.m. A bug expert will be on hand, and a worm race will take place. The event will be postponed in the event of rain. Meet an Animal Planet 'Hero of the Year' Mona Rutger, the 2006 Animal Planet "Hero of the Year," operates a volunteer wildlife rehabilitation and nature education center named "Back to the Wild" in Castilia. She will bring various hawks, owls, a Bald Eagle, a flying squirrel, snakes, turtles, salamanders, toads and other nature-related items to the library July 1 at 1 p.m. Hats off to Ohio On June 19 at 7 p.m., Denny Reiser, retired teacher and history enthusiast, will present a talk and slide show on the history of Ohio. Reiser shows the audience the earliest inhabitants up to the present as he dons period hats of the ancestors who made Ohio great. This program is for all ages and will cover Ohio's canals, railroads, presidents, inventors, natural landmarks and more. In celebration of the Stow Township Bicentennial, Reiser will place special emphasis on local historical sites. Come to this presentation to learn more about Ohio and the Stow Township Driving/Walking tour scheduled for the weekend of June 21 and 22. This program is co-sponsored by the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library and the Stow Township Bicentennial Committee. Reservations will be accepted beginning May 27. Bicentennial Driving/Walking Tour Stow Township, created in June 1808, originally consisted of the communities of Cuyahoga Falls, Munroe Falls, Silver Lake and Stow. These four communities have come together to celebrate the Bicentennial with a driving/walking tour of historic sites June 21 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and June 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. Some of the sites will be staffed by volunteers to answer questions and explain the historical significance of that site. Other sites will be drive-by only. White signs will identify each site. Tour guide booklets and maps will be available at the Reference Desk at Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library. There is a limit of one booklet per family. Booklets also will be handed out at the Hats Off to Ohio program at the library June 19. Bridge Club The Bridge Club meets on the second Monday of the month from 12:45 until 3:30 p.m. for cards and conversation in the Stow-Munroe Falls meeting room at the library. Players should arrive at 12:45 p.m., bridge begins promptly at 1 p.m. There is no fee to join the club, but a small collection will be taken for refreshments. The Reference Department at Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library has an arrangement with the Foreign Language Department of the Cleveland Public Library to provide a rotating selection of print materials in various languages that can be checked out by adult and juvenile patrons. The collection is rotated after a two-month period, so there will always be new titles from which to choose.
