Neighborhood Watch meetings set in Stow

Stow Police Department Neighborhood Watch meetings take place on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Stow Safety Center, 3800 Darrow Road.The next meeting is May 19.

Those who have questions or would like to organize a neighborhood watch group in their neighborhood are asked to call Officer Barry Smith or Officer Joe Hepler at 330-689-5700.

Golf outing supports those with disabilities

Hattie Larlham's 22nd annual Sugar Bush Golf Classic to benefit children and adults with disabilities will be May 21 at the Sugar Bush Golf Club in Garrettsville.

The golf tournament features morning and afternoon tee times for four-person teams. The Sugar Bush Golf Classic is presented by Sugar Bush Golf Club and The Middlefield Banking Co. The event includes contests, raffles and grand prize drawings. The cost is $125 per person.

Proceeds from this event benefit the children and adults with disabilities served by Hattie Larlham, an area non-profit agency. In 21 years, this golf outing has raised more than $380,000.

Widowed Persons meet

Widowed Persons' Service offers comfort and support to the grieving individual.

There is no fee.

Widows and widowers are invited to join the group.

Support group sessions take place on the first and third Monday of each month, unless it is a holiday, in which case the session will be on Tuesday.

WPS meets at Cuyahoga Falls Public Library, 2015 Third St., Cuyahoga Falls, from 1 to 3 p.m.

WPS meets for breakfast Saturdays at 9 a.m. at the following locations: Jasper's Restaurant, 662 Canton Road in Akron; Town Crier, 2293 Wadsworth Road in Norton; and Four Points Sheraton Hotel, 3150 W. Market St. in Akron. Call Irene at 330-864-6285 for more information.

Summer music
classes available

Eckman Music Studio is offering introductory piano classes for beginners ages 6 to 10. These classes are one hour long and take place Monday through Friday for one week. This is an chance for children to try out piano classes and find out if they like them. They play games and each student plays on a full sized keyboard.

Nothing But Games! is a class is for any music student. Classes are 45 minutes long and will meet Monday through Friday for one week. Students can sign up for more than one week. They will play many different games to help them strengthen their note reading, counting, knowledge of scales and chords and more.

Music classes hosted
at Western Reserve

Western Reserve Music is offering mommy and me music classes for babies and toddlers ages newborn to 3 years old.

This is a chance for moms (or dads) to connect with their little ones through the power of music. The one-hour class includes music and movement, playtime, introduction to instruments, introduction to famous composers, and story time. Participants also will hone their own music kit.

Musical group
seeking new members

A vocal ensemble called the Sto-Notes includes women ages 18 and older who enjoy singing in three-part harmonies.

As a non-profit organization that performs for a wide variety of community and civic groups throughout the greater Akron area, they add choral choreography to their performances. For more information about membership or performances, call 330-626-5639 or e-mail judithpm@aol.com.

Weekly rehearsals take place Mondays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Fishcreek Elementary School, 5080 Fishcreek Road in Stow.

'Enlightening' study group meets regularly

The Stow-Kent Association for Research and Enlightenment study group, the local branch of A.R.E. of Virginia Beach, is scheduled to meet Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at various locations.

Weight Watchers group meets in Stow

Weight Watchers meets Mondays at 12:15 p.m. at Stow City Hall, 3760 Darrow Road.

At Weight Watchers meetings, people come together with a common goal -- to learn how to successfully lose weight. Meetings are an important part of how Weight Watchers helps members reach their goals.

Weight Watchers is offering free registration through May 10. For $39.95 a month, members get unlimited access to meetings, e-tools and an Internet weight-loss companion.
