The Tallmadge First Church of God will serve as one of the newest host sites that will participate in the Angel Food Ministries program. Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the U.S. There are no applications to complete or income guidelines. The program is open to "anyone who eats." The only requirement to participate in the program is to place an order for the food during the specific order period each month. This can be done by going to the church and placing a prepaid order. Payment can be made in the form of cash, cashiers check or money order. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system. Orders are picked up at the church on the last Saturday of each month between 10 a.m. and noon. Angel Food's groceries are sold in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box (17-plus items) at $25 per unit, usually consisting of six to eight meat items, as well as canned and boxed items. Each month's menu is different than the previous month with an average retail value of approximately $60. Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week, or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is the same one would purchase at a grocery store. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or specialty boxes an individual can purchase, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. For more information, call 330-633-4385. Tallmadge First Church of God is at 464 Northeast Ave. Comments
