MARY ELEANOR 'SKEET' COOK

Grandmother of 18

Mary Eleanor "Skeet" Cook, 92, died April 13, 2008.

She was born Mary Eleanor Simmons on July 3, 1915, in Russellville, Ky., to Charles Carter Simmons and Eulalie (Beauchamp) Simmons. She moved to Ohio in 1923 at the age of 8. In 1936, her brother, Felix, brought home a handsome red-haired friend from the Army, Oscar L. "Red" Cook, and later that year, Mary and "Red" were married. Together, they raised two daughters while owning and operating a coal yard and a Sohio Gas Station. Mrs. Cook later worked at O'Neil's for seven years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Stow, where she was very active and had many close friends. She had a "green thumb" with flowers, made delicious pies and always especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five siblings. Her sister Pauline, who was 19 years older, was like a second mother. Mrs. Cook is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Betty Jo and Andrew J. Alboreo of Stow and Donna Sue and Fred Martin of California. Grandchildren include: John Alboreo (Annette), Joni Alboreo (Doug), Jill Alboreo Merk (Mike) and Jeffrey Alboreo (Stephanie). Great grandchildren include: Blake, Shea, Dare and Kade Heisterman; Josette, Kate, Drew and Logan Alboreo; Crimson, Carson and Carter Merk; and Zachary and McKenna Alboreo. Her great-great grandchild is Dillinger Sherwood.

Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery after a private family ceremony conducted by the Rev. Mark Richardson. Memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, 3493 Darrow Road, Stow 44224. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Redmon Funeral Home.
