Employment program set for April 23 at KSU

Hattie Larlham Research Institute will present "Employment Through Social Capital" April 23 with Dr. Al Condeluci of Pittsburgh as guest lecturer. The event will take place at Kent State University's Ohio White Hall from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event is part of a new series of seminars provided by the Hattie Larlham Research Institute, providing an opportunity for professionals to network and get some real solutions and answers to today's challenges for people with disabilities.

Following his lecture, Dr. Condeluci will join a panel discussion entitled "Problems and Solutions in Employing People with Disabilities," with the following panelists: Dr. Phil Rumrill, professor and director, Center for Disability Studies, Kent State University; George Cyphers, clinical director of VoCare Inc.; Juanita Greenwood, program director, Vocational Services, Hattie Larlham Community Living; Danielle Martin, regional manager, VocWorks Inc.; and Bob Morgan, supervisor, Ohio Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation.

The panel moderator will be Tom Patton.

To register, call Phylliss L. Steiner, director of Creative Arts for the Hattie Larlham Research Institute; at 1-800-233-8611, ext. 3013.

The event costs $35. Refreshments, parking and materials are included. University students are admitted free (limited spaces).

Record number of open houses to be conducted

Homebuyers can take advantage of a special opportunity April 27, when Howard Hanna Real Estate Services conducts a record-setting 2,008 open houses in one day.

In addition, one lucky participant in the company's 2008 Open House Extravaganza will win $2008 toward closing costs on a home purchase.

The winner must purchase his or her home through a Howard Hanna Sales Associate, finance through Howard Hanna Mortgage, and close with Barristers Land Abstract or its affiliate.

Entries for the contest will be available at each open house location.

"We are providing an outstanding opportunity for those who are seeking a home to explore the variety of different listings that are available to them," said Howard W. "Hoby" Hanna IV, President, Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer. "Our company plans to bring as many buyers and sellers together as possible within the convenience of one afternoon to create a win-win situation."

The company's REALTORS® will have at least two of their listings open for buyers on that day, maximizing the number of open houses the company typically conducts on a Sunday.
