Baptist Church

First Christian
Church of Stow

New class -- A yearlong class, "Overview of the Bible," is offered Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. All are invited to join in this review of the Bible, with the first unit covering Genesis through Deuteronomy.

There also are four other Adult Sunday School classes, and classes for pre-school students through high school students.

* First Christian Church of Stow's Sunday services include worship in the chapel at 8:30 a.m., Christian Education classes for all ages from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and worship in the sanctuary at 10:45 a.m.

Youth groups for sixth- through 12th-graders meet each Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Nursery care is provided during all services.

Kindergartners through fifth-graders begin worship in the sanctuary and then attend their own "Junior Church" after the Children's Sermon time.

Communion is shared each week during both worship services.

Fishcreek Nazarene Worship Center

Services -- The church's Sunday Worship times are: Fishcreek School of the Bible at 9 a.m.; and Sunday morning worship at 10:45 a.m.

Holy Family Parish

Crafts group -- Holy Family's newest group, Christ's Crafters, meets at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Lower Church Hall.

Members of the group get together for fellowship and crafting.

* Holy Family Parish in Stow will present "People of the Passion" March 16.

The community is invited to begin Holy Week through the experience of Sacred Scripture, narrative, song, and letters from "eye witnesses" of the Good Friday 2,000 years ago.

All are invited to share in this one-hour presentation, which is appropriate for all ages.

* SwordS, a youth Bible study program, meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the Lower Church Hall, Room 3. Men's Bible study meets at 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays in the Lower Church Hall, Room 1.

* The church offers babysitting during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. Kindergartners through second-graders are invited to a special Children's Liturgy of the Word during the same Mass.

Stow Alliance Fellowship

Sermon series -- Stow Alliance Fellowship Pastor John Kitchen presents a sermon series, "That You Might Believe -- Studies in John 1-12," Sundays at 9 and 10:30 a.m.

Nursery care and Sunday school programs are available for all ages.

* Stow Alliance Fellowship is offering a special Sunday School DVD series, "The Truth Project," produced by Focus on the Family. Come to consider what it means to have a biblical worldview.

* Sunday Evening Worship opportunities are available through Life Groups -- small group meetings that provide fellowship opportunities and Bible-based studies in homes throughout Stow.

* Wednesday nights at 7 p.m., the church hosts Awana for kids and activities for teens and adults.

* Special Easter Services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. will be filled with a variety of music from Casting Crowns, Israel Houghton, Aaron Shust and Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus."

* Wednesdays at 6 p.m., the church offers a "Souper Wednesday" meal for a nominal fee, followed by 7 p.m. activities for kids (Awana), teens and adults.

United Church of Christ

Worship times -- The Stow Community United Church of Christ hosts church services at 10:30 a.m. Children's Sunday school begins after the children's sermon. Nursery care is available for children 4 and under. The chancel choir will sing under the direction of Jerry Busby.

The Adult Sunday School class meets Sunday before worship from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

The class is studying the Gospel of John, and meets in the parlor. The Friendship Group is studying Max Lucado's "In the Grip of Grace." The group meets on the lower level.

* All are welcome to attend a March 14 spaghetti supper from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost to attend is $6.50 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Chef salad and carryout are available.

* An Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for March 15 at 11 a.m., with a light lunch to follow.

* A Passover/Communion Dinner and Drama is scheduled for March 20 at 6 p.m. Reservations must be made by March 16 by calling the church. Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday celebrations are scheduled for March 16 and 23 at 10:30 a.m.

Presbyterian Church

Lent -- The sermon series "Listening to Lent" will focus on reflecting on Christ's sacrifice and seeking God's wisdom. Communion service will take place on Maundy Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m., and Good Friday, March 21, at 8 p.m. Daily devotionals and reminder tokens also are available.

* Sunday service times are as follows: contemporary at 8:15 a.m.; traditional at 9:30 a.m.; and blended at 10:45 a.m.

* Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. for children and teens. Adult Bible fellowships are available at 8:15 and 9:30 a.m.

* The Simple Spirits Women's Group is hosting a study on John Ortberg's book, "The Life You've Always Wanted," Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Stow Glen Retirement Facility on Kent Road in Stow.

Youth group -- The youth group "Delirious" meets Wednesday nights in the South Sanctuary for worship, fellowship and a relevant message.

Christian Church

First United
Methodist Church

Lenten services -- First United Methodist Church is exploring "The Music of the Heart" this Lenten season and will have a Lenten service March 12 at 7 p.m. featuring the ancient prayer "Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy."

The Chancel adult choir at the church will present Kyries from many times by many composers in a service that also will invite those present to make their own prayers for God's mercy. The music will include a Gregorian chant, Kyries and music of Taize. A fellowship time will follow. Child care available. An offering will be taken for the mission projects the church supports.

* Community members are invited to experience a presentation on Christ in the Passover at the church March 19. The program will be led by Yoel Ben David from Jews for Jesus at 7 p.m. in Wesley Hall. At a table set with traditional Passover items, Ben David will share the lessons the Passover celebration can teach Christians about the Jewish roots of Christian faith and God's plan for salvation. Representative Passover foods will be explained, but not eaten, and ancient and modern Jewish customs will be shared as part of the program. A time of fellowship will conclude the evening. Although there is no cost to attend, a free will offering to support the work of Jews for Jesus will be taken. All are invited.

First United Methodist Church of Akron

Lenten fish fry -- The First United Methodist Church of Akron has scheduled a Lenten fish fry dinner at the church March 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Fried and baked cod, baked chicken breast, potatoes, cole slaw, cake and beverages will be served.

The cost to attend is $8 for adults and $5 for children, ages 3 to 12. Tickets can be purchased through the church office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or at the door. Parking and the entrance to the church are in the rear area of the building.

Northminster Presbyterian Church

Maundy Thursday service -- Northminster Presbyterian Church will host a Maundy Thursday service March 20 at 7 p.m., with communion by intinction. The Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Atkins Jr. will be the pastor for that service. Good Friday will be observed with an opportunity for quiet meditation in the sanctuary from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be a meditation guide available to participants.

Northminster sponsors a non-denominational Christian youth club, the Pioneers, which gathers at 6 p.m. on Thursdays for fun, learning, crafts, music and snacks. Presbyterian Church

Lenten offerings -- Throughout the season of Lent, the church is selling handmade olive wood carvings made by Palestinian Christians. Those interested can come to the church from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. during the week.

* The Men's Breakfast will be March 15 at the Silver Swan from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The Silver Swan is on the corner of Front Street and Hudson Drive in Cuyahoga Falls.

* For Holy Week, the church will celebrate Jesus' kingly entrance into Jerusalem on Palm/Passion Sunday March 17. The Maundy Thursday Service, which commemorates the meal Jesus shared with His disciples, will be March 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. Jesus' power over death will be celebrated on the Sunday of the Resurrection, March 23.
