New class -- A yearlong class, "Overview of the Bible," is offered Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. All are invited to join in this review of the Bible, with the first unit covering Genesis through Deuteronomy. There also are four other Adult Sunday School classes, and classes for pre-school students through high school students. * First Christian Church of Stow's Sunday services include worship in the chapel at 8:30 a.m., Christian Education classes for all ages from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and worship in the sanctuary at 10:45 a.m. Youth groups for sixth- through 12th-graders meet each Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nursery care is provided during all services. Holy Family Parish Crafts group -- Holy Family's newest group, Christ's Crafters, meets at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Lower Church Hall. Members of the group get together for fellowship and crafting. * Holy Family Parish in Stow will present "People of the Passion" March 16. The community is invited to begin Holy Week through the experience of Sacred Scripture, narrative, song, and letters from "eye witnesses" of the Good Friday 2,000 years ago. All are invited to share in this one-hour presentation, which is appropriate for all ages. * SwordS, a youth Bible study program, meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the Lower Church Hall, Room 3. Stow Alliance Fellowship Sermon series -- Stow Alliance Fellowship Pastor John Kitchen presents a sermon series, "That You Might Believe -- Studies in John 1-12," Sundays at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Nursery care and Sunday school programs are available for all ages. * Stow Alliance Fellowship is offering a special Sunday School DVD series, "The Truth Project," produced by Focus on the Family. Worship times -- The Stow Community United Church of Christ hosts church services at 10:30 a.m. Children's Sunday school begins after the children's sermon. Nursery care is available for children 4 and under. The chancel choir will sing under the direction of Jerry Busby. The Adult Sunday School class meets Sunday before worship from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. The class is studying the Gospel of John, and meets in the parlor. The Friendship Group is studying Max Lucado's "In the Grip of Grace." The group meets on the lower level. * All are welcome to attend a March 14 spaghetti supper from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost to attend is $6.50 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Lent -- The sermon series "Listening to Lent" will focus on reflecting on Christ's sacrifice and seeking God's wisdom. Lenten services -- First United Methodist Church is exploring "The Music of the Heart" this Lenten season and will have a Lenten service March 12 at 7 p.m. featuring the ancient prayer "Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy." The Chancel adult choir at the church will present Kyries from many times by many composers in a service that also will invite those present to make their own prayers for God's mercy. The music will include a Gregorian chant, Kyries and music of Taize. A fellowship time will follow. Child care available. An offering will be taken for the mission projects the church supports. * Community members are invited to experience a presentation on Christ in the Passover at the church March 19. The program will be led by Yoel Ben David from Jews for Jesus at 7 p.m. in Wesley Hall. At a table set with traditional Passover items, Ben David will share the lessons the Passover celebration can teach Christians about the Jewish roots of Christian faith and God's plan for salvation. Representative Passover foods will be explained, but not eaten, and ancient and modern Jewish customs will be shared as part of the program. A time of fellowship will conclude the evening. Although there is no cost to attend, a free will offering to support the work of Jews for Jesus will be taken. All are invited. First United Methodist Church of Akron Lenten fish fry -- The First United Methodist Church of Akron has scheduled a Lenten fish fry dinner at the church March 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Fried and baked cod, baked chicken breast, potatoes, cole slaw, cake and beverages will be served. The cost to attend is $8 for adults and $5 for children, ages 3 to 12. Tickets can be purchased through the church office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or at the door. Lenten offerings -- Throughout the season of Lent, the church is selling handmade olive wood carvings made by Palestinian Christians.
