by Amanda Harnocz Reporter Munroe Falls -- Two incumbents and two newcomers will compete for three available Munroe-Falls City Council seats Nov. 6. The candidates are incumbents Cathy Laubaugh and Gary Toth and newcomers Gregg Bartholomew and Ron Meyer. City Councilmember Dave Bertsch's term expires this year, but he is not seeking another term. The top three vote-getters will begin their four year terms Jan. 2, 2008. Laubaugh, 58, said she would "like to continue to be involved in city government." She has been campaigning by going door to door, handing out fliers and talking to residents. Laubaugh, who has been on Council for the past eight years, also served on the board of zoning appeals for nine years. She also is a business owner, stating, "I have always been involved in community activities." Toth, 53, has served on Council for two years. He said he has enjoyed working with his fellow city officials. "I think we got a good start two years ago, but [Council] is nowhere near where we want it to be," he said. "I really love our city. What we have done with the park board as far as community events, I want to see that continue." Toth has kept his campaign "pretty low key", saying he doesn't believe in yard signs, but he has been going door to door and distributing fliers. Bartholomew, 52, said he is running because he wants "to give back to the community. I'd like to have a better community. The way to do that is [through] involvement." He served on the board of zoning appeals in 2005, and currently is a member of the planning commission. Bartholomew has campaigned by going door to door, handing out biography sheets and walking around the city. "I've been on streets I've never been on before," he said. Meyer, 65, ran for Council in 2005. "I've attended the greater majority of the Council meetings for the past four years," he said. Meyer said while sitting in the audience, issues would come up and he would think, "Let me vote on this." He said he believes his education and work experience "allow me the experience of dealing with people and money, planning projects and executing them." Meyer added he wants "to cooperate with others to accomplish a goal." E-mail: aharnocz@recordpub.com Phone: 330-686-3947 Comments
