None too fragile's latest stage offering, "Sans Merci" by Johnna Adams, is an emotional roller coaster that is both achingly beautiful and exquisitely painful to watch.

The play opened Aug. 5 and features an exceptionally talented trio of actresses: Harriet DeVeto, Miranda Scholl and Cassandra West, all three whom make their debut with none too fragile with this performance. It is directed by Sean Derry and Brian Kenneth Armour.

The story centers on Kelly (West), the survivor of a rape and murder attempt while on a humanitarian mission to Columbia she and Tracy (Scholl) had embarked on during their spring break. Tracy was raped, then killed, and her death haunts Kelly.

One afternoon, Kelly gets a surprise visit from Tracy's mother Elizabeth (DeVeto). Part of the story shows the back and forth between Kelly and Elizabeth and they alternately come together in their shared love and grief over Tracy, and draw apart over their many differences. The other scenes are flashbacks to Kelly and Tracy in college as they meet, get to know each other, and take their ill-fated journey to Columbia.

All three actresses are phenomenal, but special kudos to West for her portrayal of Kelly. When she appeared in the first flashback scene, her demeanor was so changed from the first, present-day scene, for a moment I thought she was another actress. The difference in the Kelly you see before the Columbia trip and after was incredibly well done.
