Visit Hale Farm & Village on Aug. 13 and 14 for the annual Civil War Reenactment. The Reenactment at Hale Farm & Village is the largest annual Civil War reenactment in Ohio.
Beginning Aug. 12, Hale Farm offers "Civil War Education Day," in partnership with the 6th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. This event presents a sneak peek into the making of a reenactment. Children have the unique opportunity to observe Union and Confederate camps, meet soldiers and civilians in period dress, and enjoy all that Hale Farm & Village has to offer.
On Aug. 13 at 2:30 p.m. and Aug. 14 at 2 p.m., visitors can experience the recreation of the Battle of Big Bethel. The Battle of Big Bethel is one of the earliest land battles of the Civil War and took place near Newport News, Va., on June 10, 1861. Seven hundred reenactors will be set up at the encampment, and visitors are invited to walk through the campgrounds and talk with soldiers, cavalry and civilians dressed in period clothing.
Other highlights of the weekend include a visit from "President Lincoln," Camp Chase Fifes and Drums Corps and shopping on Suttler's Row with vendors of Civil War era merchandise. Cavalry mounted drills, foot soldier drills, and artillery demonstrations of the Civil War will also take place throughout the weekend.
"The Civil War Reenactment brings the past to life in a memorable way and engages children in history first hand." said Jason Klein, Director of Hale Farm & Village. "Reenactment weekend is an event that you won't want to miss."
Advance tickets are available for the weekend-long event, with regular admission for one-day visitors and special pricing for those who choose to purchase two-day tickets. Online ticket sales will be offered until 5 p.m. on Aug. 12. After that date, tickets will need to be purchased at the door. Each day offers activities for the whole family and the opportunity to experience life during the American Civil War.
Guests also can ride the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to the event. Tickets should be reserved in advance through the CVSR.
