'Freud's Last Session' a battle of the minds at Actors' Summit

Published:

"Freud's Last Session" by Mark St.Germain will receive its regional premiere at Actors' Summit, Akron's professional theater.

The production will have a preview performance Feb. 28 with the official opening March 1. The show will run for three weeks, closing on March 17 at Greystone Hall in downtown Akron.

The play is set in the London study of Sigmund Freud. Freud has been in London for a little over a year, having fled the Nazi persecution. On the day that Great Britain enters the Second World War, C. S. Lewis, a young Oxford professor, visits at Freud's invitation. Freud, a lifelong atheist has invited Lewis to chat about Lewis' recent conversion to Christianity from atheism. Although religion is the starting point of the discussion, it soon expands to include the nature of humor, sexual mores, and death. Freud is approaching the end of his life, which may or may not have prompted him to invite Lewis to his home. Lewis is still early in his career, with "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Screwtape Letters" yet to be written.

Individual ticket prices are $19 at the preview on Feb. 28 and the Saturday matinee on March 9. On Thursdays and Sundays adults are $28 and seniors over 65 are $25. Opening night March 1 and all Saturdays are $30. Fridays are $28. All full time students with ID can attend any performance for $9. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.actorssummit.org, or by phone at 330-374-7568.

The theater is on the sixth floor of historic Greystone Hall in downtown Akron. The facility features barrier free access, free parking, and full bar service.
