On May 15, Fishcreek Elementary School received its final $1,000 check from the Fueling Our Schools program. Fishcreek Elementary partnered with Circle K Convenience Stores to participate in the national Fueling Our Schools Program during the 2016-17 school year.
The check was presented to Fishcreek Principal Joanne Brookover and student principal-for-a-day Abby Klatka. Abby was selected to be the principal for a single day after raising $150 for the Fishcreek Raccoon Run, the annual fundraiser for the Fishcreek Parent Teacher Association.
All schools in the program participated in two national Fuel Up Nights and two local nights at Circle K.
During those evenings, the school earned 10 cents per gallon of fuel purchased at Circle K between 4-8 p.m. The first national night was held on Oct. 21, and the second night was held on May 5. In addition to the event evenings, Circle K donated one cent per gallon of gas purchased up to $1,000 per semester. Those who participated during a Fuel Up Night also had the chance to turn in their receipts, name and phone number to enter to win two $50 Circle K gift cards.
Fishcreek Elementary plans to use the additional funding for student awards and incentives, school supplies, classroom materials and to support school spirit. In total, the school raised $2,000 through the program.
"Thank you to everyone at Circle K for making this program possible," Brookover said. "It was an easy and fun way to get our community involved in supporting our schools, and the funding will directly benefit our students. Thank you to all those who participated and helped fuel our school."
