The Stow-Munroe Falls City School District is accepting nominations for the Distinguished Alumni Awards. These awards honor Stow-Munroe Falls High School (SMFHS) alumni whose achievements, citizenship and strength of character will serve as models to inspire and challenge today's students.

To nominate someone for the Distinguished Alumni Awards, please fill out the form found on the homepage of the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District website, http://smfschools.org/district/distinguished-alumni-awards. All nominations must be received by April 1; winners will be selected by a committee of community members.

Alumni can be nominated in six specific categories, depending on how they have made an impact. Alumni can be nominated for the Academic Excellence Award, recognizing those who have demonstrated a continued passion for learning; the Career Achievement Award, recognizing those who have outstanding achievements in their professional field; the Dedicated Service Award, recognizing those who have devoted time to give back to SMFHS; the Heroism Award, recognizing those who have prevailed over adversity or served in the Armed Forces; the Humanitarian Award, recognizing those who have devoted their lives to caring for others; and the Cultural Enrichment Award, recognizing those who have contributed to the enhancement of the arts.

Community members can also be nominated for the Honorary Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes residents who are not SMFHS graduates but who have had a lasting effect on the district and its students through a commitment to public education.

This is the third Distinguished Alumni Awards in the district's history. The 2011 winners were Harley Lappin, who graduated in 1970 and was honored with the Career Achievement Award, and Dr. Scott Lacy, who graduated in 1989 and received the Humanitarian Award. The 2014 winners were Dr. Susan Albers, who graduated in 1993, and Dr. Eric Evans, who graduated in 1979. Both Albers and Evans received the Career Achievement Award.

"Some amazing students graduate from Stow-Munroe Falls High School, and when they graduate, they are only just starting on their journeys," said Amanda Murray, assistant principal at SMFHS.

"These awards allow us to follow up with their lives after high school and recognize them for their accomplishments. I am excited to read this year's nominations and find out what our former students have achieved."
