On Jan. 27, students from Kent State University visited Stow-Munroe Falls City School District's Fishcreek Elementary School for Move with the Flashes Day. This is the first year the event has taken place at Fishcreek.
The Kent State students were a mixture of physical education majors and athletes on various teams, including golf, gymnastics, baseball, softball, football, track and field, soccer and volleyball.
"We had a lot of fun with the Kent State students," said physical education teacher Courtney Rutan, who organized the event. "Our students were able to get up and get active throughout the day, and the university students were able to practice interacting with elementary school students as activity leaders. I hope that we can continue to partner with Kent State for more fun, active events."
During the day, Fishcreek students participated in various stations led by the Kent State students. Stations included football, basketball, yoga, pitching, a balloon toss and dancing. At each station, the Kent State students gave the Fishcreek students information about the sport they were playing, as well as the benefits of leading an active lifestyle.
"Move with the Flashes turned out to be a great event," said Fishcreek Principal Joanne Brookover. "We really enjoyed having the Kent State students visit, and I thank Courtney for organizing the event. It was a wonderful time and our students had a lot of fun being active and learning about different exercises."
