Mike Sheehan, head girls' lacrosse coach at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, has been honored with the Liberty Ford Coach of the Year award. Each year, Liberty Ford and ESPN Cleveland present an evening dedicated to the outstanding coaches in the Northeast Ohio area.

"Mike does an excellent job in leading our girls' lacrosse program, and we are certainly proud that he met the criteria to win the Liberty Ford Coach of the Year award," said Athletic Director Cyle Feldman. "He has positively developed his skills as a coach and puts a lot of time and effort into the Stow-Munroe Falls High School program."

Sheehan was one of 10 coaches who were nominated for an award. Six of those coaches were selected to attend the awards ceremony, and only two are winners: one boys' team coach and one girls' team coach. Sheehan won based on the number of votes he received from the judging committee.

Sheehan attended Indiana University and started his coaching career at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago. After winning a state football championship, Sheehan was inspired by his four daughters and began coaching girls' teams including volleyball, soccer and basketball. He then started coaching girls' lacrosse at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.

"The chance to work with these wonderful girls and be part of such a great athletic program was a huge opportunity," Sheehan said. "They are a very important aspect of my life and I am glad to know that they feel the same way about being part of the lacrosse team. I look forward to coaching lacrosse in Stow for many more seasons and am very grateful for this recognition."

The award ceremony took place on Jan. 19 at Flemings Prime Steakhouse. As coach of the year, Sheehan received $7,500 for the school.

"We are very proud of Mike and congratulate him on this recognition," said Superintendent Tom Bratten. "Coaches play a large, influential role in the lives of our students, and it is wonderful to know that we have so many great coaches in the district. We also thank Liberty Ford for their significant donation to the Stow High School Athletic Department. This surely fits into their positive reputation as a company that does great work and gives back to the community."
