On Jan. 20, the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) On Wheels program visited Woodland Elementary School. The program is sponsored by the Woodland Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
"This is a great way to get our students engaged and interested in science," said Principal Mary Lou Muckleroy. "It is an assembly that they truly look forward to, and the required participation helps them retain the information that they learn."
The students participated in a themed, 45-minute interactive assembly, then after the assembly returned during the day to complete activities at various stations, each related to the theme. This year's them was animals and their habitats. Students learned how animals use camouflage to survive in their habitat, studied the impact of environmental changes on plants and animals, and learned where familiar animals, such as raccoons and skunks, live and thrive.
COSI On Wheels is the traveling outreach program of COSI Columbus that engages students with a dynamic opening assembly and fun, hands-on science activities aligned with the Ohio Academic Content Standards and the National Science Education Standards.
"We appreciate COSI coming to visit and providing this presentation," Muckleroy said. "I also thank our wonderful PTA for sponsoring the program, and I look forward to continuing to work together to benefit our students."
