5 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK

1. Old Schoolhouse dedication, tours:

The Stow Historical Society will be dedicating the "Stewart Schoolhouse" at 2 p.m. July 2 at the Stewart Schoolhouse in the Heritage Park Reserve area of Silver Springs Park off Young Road.

The Society will also have all of the historical houses open for walk-in tours, beginning at noon through 4 p.m., except during the dedication ceremony. An ice cream social will be provided by the Stow Historical Society.

2. Everyone loves a parade!:

The annual Stow Fourth of July parade, sponsored by the city of Stow Parks and Recreation Department and the Kiwanis Club of Stow-Munroe Falls, will step off at 10 a.m. from the Stow-Kent shopping center on Kent Road and proceed west to Park Drive, just beyond Holy Family School.

The 2017 Stow Fourth of July parade theme is "Salute to Veterans."

The annual Stow Firecracker Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church. The Firecracker Run and the parade will result in some road closures. Kent Road will be closed from Marsh Road to Englewood Drive and Darrow Road will be closed from Graham Road in Stow to Pinehurst Road in Munroe Falls from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. for the Firecracker Run and then from 9:30 a.m. to noon for the parade.

3. FIREWORKS AT BLOSSOM:

There will be a fireworks show at Blossom Music Center on both July 3 and 4 at 8 p.m. each day in conjunction with The Cleveland Orchestra's annual Independence Day themed concert. Blossom is at 1145 W Steels Corners Road in Cuyahoga Falls.

4. RACE BENEFITS FALLS CANCER CLUB:

The Falls Cares 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run will take place July 8. This is the Falls Cancer Club Inc.'s fourth annual 5K in Cuyahoga Falls. 100 percent of all funds paid by the runners/walkers go directly to Cuyahoga Falls Cancer patients that are registered with the Falls Cancer Club Inc.

The Kids Fun Run starts at 8 a.m. with the 5K immediately following. The race starts and ends at First Christian Church - corner of Stow Avenue and Second Street in the Falls. The Cuyahoga Falls Police Department, the Mayor's Office and the First Christian Church of Cuyahoga Falls is supporting the Falls Cares 5K for the fourth year. Register to run/walk at: fallscares5k.org or Active.com under Falls Cares 5K or contact Melinda Dull at 330-687-9253 and/or melsbterry@att.net for a paper registration form to mail in.

5. SOMMERFEST IS JULY 7-8-9:

Cuyahoga Falls Sommerfest will take place at Falls River Square on July 7 from 5-11 p.m., July 8 from noon-11 p.m. and July 9 from 12:30-8 p.m. This will be a summer version of the Cuyahoga Falls Oktoberfest, which typically occurs in September. This year, the event is happening in July due to the upcoming construction planned on Front Street. Come and enjoy German food, beer, and entertainment that supports local charities and scholarship grants. Parking and admission is free.
