Junior Moms of Stow

On June 14 the Junior Moms of Stow and Adjacent Areas (JMoS) welcomed its 2017-18 Board members during a celebration at the Wine Mill in Peninsula. The new board includes Liz Abruzzese, president; Amanda Jonard, vice president one; Michelle Marazzi, vice president two; Lisa Gillespie, treasurer; and Rebecca Verlezza, secretary.

The JMos will be hosting a new member recruitment event in August at a date and location to be decided. For an update on the upcoming event or information about joining, visit the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/juniormomsofstow.

All following meetings will held on the third Wednesday of the month at Beef O' Brady's. JMos has been a fixture in the community for more than 50 years and currently includes members in Stow, Chagrin Falls and Hudson.

The organization is a member-led social and support group for mothers with at least one child from birth through kindergarten. Each member is encouraged to volunteer, participate, and share her ideas and talents. Car show set for June 25

Knights of Columbus car, truck and motorcycle show will be held June 25 from 1 to 5 p.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church (next to Water Works Park), 1821 Munroe Falls Ave., Cuyahoga Falls. There will be trophies, prizes, food, 50/50 raffle and music by DJ Bob Allen. Spectators are free and car registration is $10. Stow Historical Society Meeting

The Stow Historical Society will be having the monthly general meeting on June 26 at Stow City Hall in the City Council Chambers at 3760 Darrow Road, Stow, beginning at 7 p.m.

The June speaker will be local resident and author Barbara Baltrinic. She will be discussing her latest book, "A Patriot's Price (The Fighting Clarks Book 2)" about Abraham Clark's son, Andrew's ventures into war armed with his sense of patriotism and strong values especially when he is captured and placed on the British prison ship, H.M.S. Jersey. General Public and all members are welcome to attend and enjoy the experience. Refreshments will be served. 100 Years of Caring for Sight

For 100 years Lions Clubs around the world have been committed to preventing blindness and preserving sight. Lions Clubs International membership currently stands at 1,445,591 Lions.

Chartered in 1939 the Stow-Munroe Falls Lions have been serving the community for more than 78 years. With a focus on sight and vision problems, the club has a Pre-School Eye Screening Program and the Realeyes program that educates Preschoolers through Grade 8 about eye anatomy, eye safety, and eye disorders. Over the past years the Lions have purchased 27 Pilot Dogs at a cost of $8,000 each.

Collection of eyeglasses and hearing aids is another project. Since January of this year, 1,956 eyeglasses, 9 hearing aids, and 14 packs of hearing aid batteries have been collected at several community sites. For a list of collection box locations, visit smflions.com

Continuing with a theme of aiding the blind and visually challenged, Scott Reisberg from the Akron Blind Center will be speaking to the Lions Club on June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at On Tap on Kent Road in Stow. All are welcome to hear Mr. Reisberg and see what the local Lions Club is all about. A short business meeting before dinner (complimentary for guests) will precede the speaker's presentation.

Haven of Rest's banquet July 11

"TOGETHER: Rebuilding Lives Through Christ" is the theme for Haven of Rest's Akron Regional Banquet, which will be held on July 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Todaro's Party Center, 1820 Akron-Peninsula Road, Akron. Learn through an inspiring program about how lives of men, women and children are being rebuilt through the amazing programs and services of Haven of Rest Ministries. There will be a man and a woman who will share their journey of recovery, and special music will be sung by Mike Radebaugh and Haven of Rest's Men's Residential Choir.

Nicotine Anonymous meets in Stow

Every Tuesday evening at the Methodist Church of Stow, 4880 Fishcreek Road, a group of individuals who want to quit smoking and live nicotine-free lives come together from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.There are no dues or fees for NicA membership the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using nicotine.NicA members meet in 38 countries, as well as by phone and via Internet meetings.
