Mobility Worldwide OH-Stow will have an open house on May 21 from noon to 4 p.m. at its workshop located at 1445 Commerce Drive in Stow.
The public is invited to come and see the workshop in Stow where volunteers build carts that are sent throughout the world to the world's most vulnerable people. Join in the fun of having pictures taken while sitting on a cart. Enjoy lunch and refreshments while touring the shop.
Mobility Worldwide OH-Stow is a faith-based, volunteer driven, non-profit organization that manufacturers and distributes hand-cranked carts that gives mobility and dignity to people who are unable to walk due to reasons such as birth defects, disease and war. It is one of 25 affiliates of Mobility Worldwide, International and the only affiliate in Ohio. The carts are free to the recipient and sturdy for steering where there are no known roads, only paths.
The ministry volunteers cut and drill wood, and form and weld metal, to make these hand-propelled carts. Each cart costs only $300 to build -- 98 percent of the money to support Mobility goes to the building and transportation of the cart. There are no overhead charges.
More than 60,000 Carts have been built for use around the world, including 173 made in Stow in 2016.
