CNP hosts Mayor Armstrong, plans fundraiser at Stow Players performance

The Citizens for Nonpartisan Politics Feb. 11 meeting had a good turnout for its morning speaker, Munroe Falls Mayor James Armstrong.

Mayor Armstrong said he decided to run for office because he wanted to help solve some of the problems in his community. Although he finds the financial problems facing the city somewhat worse than he thought they were before taking office, he said he is working hard to raise the money necessary to make Munroe Falls healthy again. Although disappointed that all of the levies placed on the fall ballot did not pass, at least he feels he has a little bit more money to work with, and between possible passage as levies go on again, seeking grants and working with surrounding cities in a collaborative effort to cut costs, he hopes to turn things around.

Munroe Falls, like all Ohio cities, is having a tough time due to the loss of local government funds from the state. Several projects in the city have had to be put on hold for too long, and will only become more expensive if not taken care of now, says Mayor Armstrong.

Mayor Armstrong had nothing but praise for the mayors of the surrounding cities in their efforts to work together.

The Citizens for Nonpartisan Politics also believe in such collaboration -- between governments and political parties, to do what's best for their citizens. This is why the group has worked hard to promote a successful candidates' night so that people will have a chance to make choices from the whole field of candidates, according to organizers.

To pay for this and other nonpartisan activities, CNP has bought out the house for a fundraiser for the Stow Players production of "Sex Please I'm Sixty" on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, at 7 p.m. Snacks, wine and pop will be served. All are welcome.

Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased by calling Karen Fritschel at 330-603-3893.
