Library Closings

The library will be closed Nov. 11 for Staff Development Day. We will reopen Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. Thank you for your understanding.

The library will close early on Nov. 23 and remain closed Nov. 24 for Thanksgiving. We will reopen Nov. 25 at 9 a.m.

Acoustic Guitar with Sam Curfman

Enjoy an evening of acoustic alternative guitar music on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Local musician Sam Curfman will entertain us with a variety of songs, from original compositions to Bobby Darin, Billy Joel, and maybe even a little Elvis. Fantastic Beasts Contest

To celebrate the premiere of the new movie, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," based on the book by J. K. Rowling, we're holding a contest for teens in grades 7-12. You could win a free $25 Regal Cinemas gift card to go see the movie with a friend (or any movie you'd like). Enter in the Teen Area between Nov. 7 and Nov. 16. Haunted Cemeteries

Why do we wear black to funerals? Are cemeteries really haunted? Who would rob graves? Find the answers to these questions and more on Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. as Sherri Brake of Haunted Heartland Tours presents a unique, spooky, and sometimes funny look at headstones, gravestone symbolism, and graveyard rituals. Her presentation will cover haunted cemeteries, beautiful and scary headstones, Victorian customs and those dreaded "buried alive" stories. There will be a Q&A and book signing after the program. Jungle Bob's

Halloween Night

Join us for Jungle Bob's Creepy Crawly Halloween Night on Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. Meet Jungle Bob's spiders, cockroaches, creepy bugs, and other animals that will put you in the Halloween spirit.°Get to see some real animal bones and hear some spine-tingling true stories about animals and bugs. Are you ready to join the hunt with the Winchester brothers? We're celebrating Halloween a little early on Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. with crafts, snacks, trivia and games, especially for fans of the hit CW television show. Not familiar with the show and just a fan of Halloween? Join us anyway and come in costume! For grades 7-12. Red Cross Blood Drive

There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive in the Stow-Munroe Falls Room on Oct. 19 from 1 to 7 p.m. Thank you for donating.

Anime Club

Join other fans for a range of anime and manga-related activities on Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m. Watch episodes of new and classic shows. Cosplay welcome. Snacks provided.°No registration necessary.°For ages 12 to 18 only.

Toothpaste Drive for Bulldog Bags

Bulldog Bags Inc. is a community, non-profit organization that provides elementary school children in the Stow-Munroe Falls School District who are on the Federal Free and Reduced Meal program, or otherwise qualified, with a "bridge of nutrition." This is a cooperative effort between the community and the schools, funded through donations from the community. Interested in participating? Look for the Bulldog Bin in the lobby and drop off medium (approximately 2.7 oz.) tubes of toothpaste to the library.

Bow Wow Book Buddies

Kindergarten thrrough sixth-grade children can read to our therapy dogs Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m.°This helps children build confidence in their reading ability with this impartial audience.°No registration required.°Sign up for a 15-minute time slot when you arrive.°Bring your favorite book or choose one of ours.

Bridge Club

Join us for cards and conversation on Nov. 14. Players should arrive at 12:45 and Bridge will begin promptly at 1 p.m. in the Stow Room at the library. There is no fee to join the club, but a small collection will be taken for refreshments. We will play as many hands as possible and finish by approximately 3:30 p.m. As a courtesy to all the players, do not plan to leave early. Bob Evans Fundraiser for

Library Foundation

Support the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library Foundation as you enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Bob Evans on Nov. 3. Bob Evans, located at 3489 Hudson Drive in Stow, will be hosting a community fundraiser to benefit the Library Foundation. From 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month, Bob Evans will donate 15 percent of sales from your meals to the Library Foundation through their Dine to Make a Difference Community Fundraiser program. Participants must present a special flier to the cashier at checkout. Fliers are available at the circulation desk and on the library's website. The Library Foundation is grateful for your donation.

Early Bird Passport Service

We offer Early Bird Passport Service to accept passport applications from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday through Thursday. Appointments for this special service are required and only two applications can be processed during this time. For appointments and information about what to bring, contact the Adult Information Department at 330-688-3295 ext. 4.

Tech Tuesday and Thursday

First come, first served assistance in setting up and familiarizing yourself with your mobile device and learning how to download free books, audiobooks, movies, magazines and more from the library's digital collection. This one-on-one service takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. Questions? Call 330-688-3295 ext. 4.

Tech Thursdays for Kids

The Children's Department is offering weekly tech help on Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. to assist kids, parents, and other caregivers with any tech concerns (except hardware repair). Drop in the day of the program and sign up for a half-hour slot. Some topics may include, but are not limited to: tablets (iPad, Kindle, Windows Surface, Android), eBooks, guidance with a specific software application (Microsoft Word, for example), email, and Web navigation. If we are unable to help you with your tech issue, we will refer you to an appropriate repair specialist. Questions? Call 330-688-3295 ext. 5.

Wednesday Movies in October

Join us for popcorn and a movie on the big screen as we present films on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. The next date is Oct. 26. Due to the terms of our license, we can't advertise the title of the movie here. Call the library at 330-688-3295 ext. 4 to find out what's playing.

Chess Club

For youths ages 5 to 17, who are familiar with the basic rules of chess, on the third Monday of the month. No signup necessary. Teaching is from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Game play begins at 7 p.m. The next session is Oct. 17. Parents of children under 12 years old must remain in the library.

Print and eBooks: Working Together

In addition to lending out physical copies of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and so on, your library provides a host of electronic materials for free download. In September, library patrons downloaded 5,445 eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMusic and eVideos. Library patrons also downloaded 1,029 items from hoopla, 174 magazines from Zinio, and 2,198 songs from Freegal. Have you tried downloading electronic materials yet? If you're not sure how to get started, stop by one of our Tech Tuesday or Tech Thursday sessions and let one of our librarians assist you. These appointments are first-come, first-served.

Free Coffee

The Library offers free coffee and tea to patrons Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us in the reference area behind the Information Desk for a hot beverage. Look for a special flavor on Wednesdays.
