The Stow Youth Football & Cheerleading (SYFC) organization, led by football director Eddie Norman and cheerleading director Theresa Gelonese, presented a $1,000 check to the family of the late Police Chief Louis Dirker to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) during a pep rally and ceremony at Lakeview Stadium on Oct. 6. The football players wore green socks and cheerleaders wore green bows at home games during the month of September in honor of this worthy mission to cure leukemia and lymphoma. Mayor Sara Kline, along with members of the Dirker family, was in attendance to thank the crowd in remembrance of their friend and loved one, Chief Dirker. League director Norman emphasized to the students that being a part of the Stow Youth Football and Cheerleading organization is not just about playing football and cheering, but giving back to the community and going beyond yourself to serve others. The students ended the night with special performances from the cheerleaders in preparation for their upcoming annual cheer competition.
