The call is going out. All would-be actors, actresses, techies (lights and sound and stage managers), makeup artists, set builders, ticket-takers, hospitality workers or anyone else who is interested in good, fun community theater: Stow Players wants you.

As they begin their 63rd continuous year of community theater, Stow Players is looking for new members to share in the fun, enjoy the camaraderie and work together to put on plays that display the Stow Players legacy and spirit. There is room for everyone: young and old, men and women, experienced or new - Stow Players is the place.

To kick off the 2016-17 production year, Stow Players is inviting anyone interested in the group and its productions to a Wine & Cheese Open House on Sept. 11 from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the Heritage Barn, 5238 Young Road, the back entrance to Silver Springs Park. Many current members, actors, directors, board members and others will be there to discuss the onstage, offstage and backstage workings of one of the area's oldest community theaters. Learn all about the upcoming season and the many, many ways Stow Players can use your support. Season tickets will be available, and club membership and sponsorship can be obtained as well. New members and subscribers get a free cupcake from Cupsi Daisy, too.

A special addition to this year's Wine & Cheese will be the 3 p.m. performance of a 10-minute play, "Myrtle Beach Sunrise," by Vivian C. Lemond of Columbus, this year's winner at the Weathervane Playhouse 8x10 Theaterfest. The cast includes Pat Robertell-Hudson, Bill Morgan and Marci Paolucci, under the direction of April Deming.

Dress is casual and everyone attending is encouraged to bring a friend - the more the merrier. RSVP's are encouraged, too, by calling 234-206-0128.

The 2016-17 season includes "Nightmare in Stow," a special Halloween presentation under the direction of Brian Westerley; "The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical," one of the craziest Christmas jaunts ever, to be directed by Dave Stebbins from Nov. 18 - Dec. 10; "The Velveteen Rabbit," Jan. 27 - Feb. 11, 2017, under the direction of Pat Robertell-Hudson; and "Sex Please, We're Sixty," a giggle fest for folks of a certain age, running March 10 - 25, under the directions of Bill Morgan.
