WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. House Committee on Ethics says no action is needed on a dismissed public intoxication charge against Congressman Tim Ryan of northeast Ohio.
The committee says in a brief report Thursday the matter is considered closed.
A judge in Lexington, Va., tossed out the misdemeanor case earlier this month.
Ryan's office says he had been charged with public intoxication on Aug. 25 while attending a staff member's wedding in western Virginia.
Police wouldn't release any other details.
A spokesman for the Youngstown-area Democrat has said Ryan denied all along that he had been intoxicated. A Ryan spokesman declined comment Thursday.
Ryan, first elected to Congress in 2002, easily won a sixth term a month ago. He's often mentioned as a possible Democratic candidate for Ohio governor in 2014.
